10 Additional wormholes

Interstellar is another film straight from the mind of Christopher Nolan. It’s a film that plays with the concept of time while delivering a mysterious and atmospheric space adventure.

If you’re done with broadcasting and are looking for alternatives, don’t worry! We’ve combed through the archives with a fine-tooth comb and saved you all the hassle by offering you our best selections for alternative viewing.

So, without further ado, here are 10 movies you should watch when you’re done with Interstellar.

Martian

The Martian is a solid film set in the desolate wasteland of Mars. With interesting science and intrigue, this film goes beyond a survival story and tells an inspiring tale of never giving up hope.

The story revolves around astronaut Mark Watney, who is stranded on Mars. A violent storm ravaged the landscape and NASA declared him dead. With few provisions and only his ingenuity and wits to hold on to, Mark does his best to survive and sends a signal to NASA to let them know he is still alive.

While NASA tries to rescue him from his situation, Watney must try to survive long enough to be rescued.

With surprising comedic moments, The Martian balances this with a great story that has strong themes of camaraderie and courage.

2001: A Space Odyssey

2001 : The Space Odyssey is a classic science fiction story, but it is also very polarizing. It’s a film that takes a long time to tell its story, with long, long shots that showcase the technical side of the film.

When it comes to a classic story set in space, armed with ideas about the unknown and AI, 2001 : The Space Odyssey is a good example. The story itself revolves around a mysterious artifact buried beneath the surface of the moon. Determined to find out what it means, humanity joins the intelligent supercomputer H.AL. 9000 for further research. Of course things don’t go as planned.

Mysterious, atmospheric and sometimes unintentionally mundane, 2001 : A Space Odyssey is unlike any other.

Arrival

Arrival is a cleverly written, thought-provoking sci-fi film that deals rather discreetly with the question of what would happen if aliens landed on Earth.

Instead of explosions and bombings like Independence Day or Armageddon, Arrival is played as a test of character, with language expert Louise Banks at the helm.

The story begins when she is recruited by the US government to investigate strange egg-shaped objects that have appeared around the world.

Throughout the film we see these aliens, and Louise does everything in her power to communicate with them. What do they want? Why are they here? And are they really hostile?

This film is a true modern classic, with an evocative atmosphere and a fascinating story.

Report on Europe

One of the strengths of the Europa report is its accurate scientific description of what we know about Jupiter’s moon, Europa.

If you agree with many scientists that there may be life under the ice, it is not surprising that there is a movie with a manned mission on the surface. In this respect, The Europe Report presents itself as a kind of documentary drama, showing exactly what will happen when it does.

It’s not a soap opera or explosive action, but it’s an exciting science fiction show. It’s also pretty exciting, and while some complain about the slow pace, Europe Report is definitely a good option.

Sunlight

Sun sets in the near future and has many similarities to Interstellar. Both films are highly imaginative and deal with an incident that threatens to destroy Earth. Instead of wormholes and time jumps, Sunny faces an endangered sun and a group of astronauts in an attempt to bring her back to life.

Our story is set in 2057, when a group of selected astronauts must drop a nuclear bomb on the sun in a last-ditch effort to save humanity. With a talented cast at the helm and an oppressive tension clinging to much of the film, Sunshine is definitely a good sci-fi option to watch.

Moon

Like Interstellar, Luna is a much more intimate story than you might expect from such a broad hypothesis. This film, though small in scope, is very emotional. Sam Rockwell’s excellent acting also contributes to this.

In the story, Sam is nearing the end of his three-year contract to harvest Helium-3 on the dark side of the moon. When communication on Earth is limited to pre-recorded messages and their only assistant is a computer called GERTY, they begin to feel isolated.

With only a few weeks to go before the end of his stay on the moon, Sam’s journey goes from bad to worse as he begins to discover surprising truths about his mission.

Haunting and well-written, Moon is a truly captivating science fiction story.

Destruction

Annihilation is a unique and interesting film that simultaneously challenges and surprises. The oppressive and suspenseful atmosphere that occupies much of the film comes into its own towards the end, and while this film will likely divide audiences, it is certainly a unique and beautiful way to end this fantastic film.

The story begins with Lena, a concerned woman who unwittingly becomes involved in a state secret after her husband comes home from the military an empty shell of the man he once was. Lena is recruited by Dr. Ventress, who is asleep, for a dangerous mission and is sent out with a group of women to investigate a strange alien phenomenon called Flicker.

Moody, provocative and sprinkled with slight creepy traits, Annihilation is a solid film.

First person

While it’s more of a biographical drama than pure science fiction, First Man is definitely a great movie and really worth seeing if you enjoyed Interstellar.

These stories are based on Neil Armstrong, and the film specifically references his legendary space mission that catapulted him into the history books as the first man on the moon.

This biographical drama won’t appeal to everyone, especially those who expect a little more glamour from their science fiction, but the emphasis on the characters certainly makes it an engaging film. Ryan Gosling is also very good here, offering a very believable performance as Neil Armstrong.

Matrix

The Matrix is simply a revolutionary film. From the way the bullet camera works to the shocking reality our main characters find themselves in, The Matrix is science fiction at its best.

For those who don’t know: The movie is about a hacker named Neo. When a handsome stranger named Trinity invites him to a club where he follows a white rabbit, he stumbles upon a shocking truth about our reality.

Well-written, compelling and incredibly provocative, The Matrix was a historical scene of its time and remains one of the most important science fiction films of our time.

Start

Interstellar borrows certain elements from Inception, particularly thought-provoking ideas about time and the basic structure of history. Of all Nolan’s films, he is the one who plays with the idea that dreams and time are continuous.

The story is simple and revolves around a man named Cobb who creates a dream burger to put an idea in the CEO’s head. It sounds complicated, but Inception manages to present its ideas as simply as possible, especially in the first half, which is littered with exposition.

Inspiring set elements and beautiful scenery make this a very entertaining show.
